Select base metals remain up on global cues

Select base metals, copper and nickel strengthened up to Rs 5 per kg in the non-ferrous metal market today in tandem with firming trend overseas on optimism over rising global demand amid weakening dollar.

Marketmen said sentiment turned better after base metals at the London Metal Exchange strengthened as the dollar weakened, raising demand for the raw materials as an alternative investment.

In the national capital, copper wire scrap, copper wire bar and copper mixed scrap gained Rs 3 each to Rs 403, Rs 422 and Rs 383, respectively, while nickel (4x4) traded higher by Rs 5 at Rs 945-949 per kg.
