Select base metals, led by copper fell up to Rs 2 per kg in the local metal market today on a weakening trend at the London Metal Exchange.

Trading sentiment turned bearish as copper prices fell in global markets on concern that slowing economic growth will curb demand for the metal used in pipes and wires.

Meanwhile, copper for delivery in three months fell 1.4 per cent to $7,156 a metric tonne on the London Metal Exchange.

In the national capital, copper wire scrap, copper wire bar and copper mixed scrap lacked necessary buying support and shed Rs 2 each to Rs 366, Rs 385 and Rs 346, while nickel (4x4) followed suit and traded lower by the same margin to Rs 873-887 per kg.
