Select edible oil prices fell by Rs 20 per quintal on the wholesale oils and oilseeds market today on sluggish demand at prevailing levels amid weakening global trend.
Traders said sluggish demand against adequate stocks mainly led to decline in sesame mill delivery oil prices.
Trading sentiment turned bearish after palm oil tumbled to the lowest level in more than three months in global markets on concern that Japan's worst earthquake on record may slow global economic recovery, cooling demand for commodities.
Meanwhile, palm oil futures for the May-delivery contract plunged 2.5 per cent to $1,079 a tonne, the lowest level since November 29.
In the national capital, palmolein (rbd) and palmolein (kandla) oils declined by Rs 20 each to Rs 5,790 and Rs 5,540, respectively, while soyabean refined mill delivery (Indore) and soyabean degum (Kandla) lost Rs 20 each to Rs 6,080 and Rs 5,780 per quintal, respectively.
Crude palm oil (ex-kandla) too traded lower by Rs 20 to Rs 5,230 per quintal.
