Wholesale prices of select edible oils rose up to Rs 20 per quintal on the oils and oilseeds market today on the back of pick up in demand, driven by the ongoing marriage season, amid a firm global trend.
Trading sentiments remained firm after palm oil jumped to the highest level in more than 28 months in Malaysia, as an increase in shipments from the top producers boosted optimism that demand for the commodity will remain strong amid low supplies.
Meanwhile, palm oil futures for February delivery rose 2.1 per cent to $1,102 a tonne on the Malaysia Derivatives Exchange, the highest price since July 17, 2008.
In the national capital, palmolein (rbd), soyabean refined mill delivery (Indore) and crude palm oil (ex-kandla) oils were up by Rs 20 each to Rs 5,680, Rs 5,700 and Rs 4,970 per quintal, respectively.
