Select edible oils rose up to Rs 30 per quintal on the wholesale oils and oilseed market today on fresh buying by vanaspati millers and retailers, driven by the festive season demand amid a firm global trend.
Marketmen said sentiments remained bullish as palm oil continued to rise to the highest level in 15 months in Malaysia on concern that the La Nina weather event may disrupt harvesting in growing regions and as a drought in Russia could cut global grain supply.
Meanwhile, palm oil futures for October-delivery rose 2.8 per cent to $870 a metric tonne on the Malaysia Derivatives Exchange, the highest since May 15, 2009.
In the edible oil section, Soyabean refined mill delivery (Indore) and soyabean degum (Delhi) oil rose by Rs 30 and Rs 20 to Rs 4,900 and Rs 4,650, while crude palm oil (ex-kandla) and palmolein (rbd) traded higher by Rs 20 each to Rs 4,000 and Rs 4,700 per quintal.
