Select spices firm up on better demand

Copra Alapuzha, copra Kozhikode and copra edible prices rose moderately at the spices market here today on renewed buying from stockists and retailers amidst limited arrivals.

Black pepper also edged higher owing to good domestic as well as export demand.

Copra office Alapuzha, copra office Kozhikode and copra edible Mumbai, all gained by Rs 50 per quintal each to Rs 5,700, Rs 5,600 and Rs 6,350 respectively, from overnight closing level of Rs 5,650, Rs 5,550 and Rs 6,300.

Black pepper moved up by Rs 2 per kilo to Rs 227/245, as against Rs 225/243 yesterday.

Meanwhile, other sprices continued to rule steady in the absence of necessary buying support.

Following are today's closing rates in rupees, with the previous rates in brackets:

Black pepper (per kg) 227/245 (225/243), ginger bleached (per kg) 230 (230), ginger unbleached (per kg) 245 (245)
