The NSE Nifty is down 142 points at 4,362.
Hindalco has plunged 6.5% to Rs 161.
Reliance Communications and Jaiprakash Associates have tumbled nearly 6% each to Rs 495 and Rs 167, respectively.
Ambuja Cements and Reliance have dropped nearly 5% each to Rs 85 and Rs 2,139, respectively.
Reliance Infrastructure has shed 4.5% at Rs 967. ITc, Tata Steel and DLF have slipped 4% each to Rs 196, Rs 783 and Rs 459, respectively.
ONGC has rallied nearly 3% to Rs 878.
Out of 2,677 stocks traded so far, 2,232 have declined, 408 have advanced and 37 are unchanged.
