Sensex below 10K, drops 229pts

The Sensex has dropped below the 10,000-mark, and is now down 229 points at 9999.

Wipro has slumped over 5% to Rs 460. Satyam has plunged nearly 5% to Rs 661.

Tata Motors, TCS and ACC have shed around 4.5% each to Rs 657, Rs 1,759 and Rs 781, respectively.

Reliance Communications, Bharti Airtel, Maruti and Hindalco have declined over 3.5% each to Rs 237, Rs 346, Rs 725 and Rs 155, respectively.

ONGC has surged over 1% to Rs 1,056.

Out of 2,409 stocks traded so far, 1,929 have declined, 425 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
