Backed by steep selling pressure, particularly, in old economy stocks, the Sensex has slipped below the 6,700-mark to touch a low of 6,687. The Sensex has shed 55 points to 6,692, and the Nifty has dropped 23 points to 2,103. Reliance has lost 1.31% (Rs 7) to Rs 566, while ITC is down Rs 4 t Rs 1,333. HDFC Bank has tumbled 3.25% (Rs 19) to Rs 574. While ICICI Bank is lacklustre at Rs 400, SBI is up a rupee at Rs 729. HPCL has dropped 2.17% (Rs 7) to Rs 332. Infosys (down Rs 7 to Rs 2,185) and Satyam (down Rs 2 to Rs 400) are trading with marginal losses. Hero Honda has lost 1.55% (Rs 9) to Rs 454. While Maruti has shed 2.38% (Rs 11) to Rs 439, Tata Motors is down a per cent (Rs 3) at Rs 453. Bajaj, however, has recovered from its lows and is up Rs 3 at Rs 1,097. Bharti has plunged deep into the red with a loss of 4.32% (Rs 9) at Rs 200. While Hindalco has scaled down 1.71% (Rs 25) to Rs 1,419, L&T is down 1.21% (Rs 13) at Rs 1,055. Tisco is trading 1.39% lower (Rs 6) at Rs 434. Grasim has shed 1.57% (Rs 21) to Rs 1,319, and Gujarat Ambuja is down a per cent (Rs 3) at Rs 425. ONGC, however, in a bearish market, has clocked a per cent gain (Rs 8) to Rs 916. |
