Sensex bounces back; banks, metal stocks lead

The Sensex is now up 294 points at 14,086.

The NSE Nifty is up 64 points at 4,254.

Following yesterday's 550-pt fall, the Sensex today has bounced back and is up around 300 points in late morning trades mainly on account of fresh buying in banking and metal stocks.

Tata Steel and HDFC Bank have soared nearly 6% each to Rs 618 and Rs 1,090, respectively. HDFC has surged 4.5% to Rs 2,200.

ICICI Bank has rallied 4% to Rs 632. BHEL, Bharti Airtel, SBI, Satyam and Reliance Infrastrucutre have moved up around 3.5% each at Rs 1,649, Rs 806, Rs 1,368, Rs 382 and Rs 939, respectively.

 

Reliance Communications and Wipro have surged over 3% each to Rs 506 and Rs 415, respectively.

Jaiprakash Associates, Tata Power and Grasim have advanced nearly 3% each to Rs 158, Rs 1,073 and Rs 1,840, respectively.

NTPC has plunged 4.3% to Rs 171.
