Sensex breaches 6,500-mark, up 60 pts

Following fresh buying in tech and other select old economy stocks, the Sensex has breached the 6,500-mark to touch a current high of 6,504. It is now up 60 points at 6,502. The Nifty has jumped 16 points to 2,061.

The market breadth remains positive with 1,455 gainers and 824 losers on the BSE so far.

Reliance, with a volume of over 19.70 lakh on the BSE, has gained 2.16% (Rs 11) to Rs 517. While ITC has inched up by Rs 4 to Rs 1,300, HLL is trading slightly weaker at Rs 144.

Infosys has rolled back into the green to Rs 2,073 - up Rs 7. While Wipro has logged 1.54% gains (Rs 12) to Rs 760, Satyam has moved up 1.48% (Rs 6) to Rs 408.

ONGC, on dividend announcement, has added 1.60% (Rs 13) to Rs 856. HPCL is trading firm with a gain of 2.85% (Rs 11) at Rs 386. Tisco has advanced 2.90% (Rs 10) to Rs 356.

HDFC Bank is still up 1.49% (Rs 7) at Rs 500. While ICICI Bank has gained 2.25% (Rs 8) to Rs 372, SBI is still up a rupee at Rs 609.

India Cement, with a volume of over 25.52 lakh, has raced ahead by 8.44% (Rs 5) to Rs 60. While Ispat, with a volume of over 1.6 crore on the BSE, has notched up 7.59% to Rs 21, Videocon has surged 5.79% to Rs 72. The counter has clocked a volume of over 15.86 lakh on the BSE.

CESC and Hind Zinc have advanced nearly 5% each to Rs 154 and Rs 142, respectively.
