The Sensex closed with a steep loss of 1.9% (120 points) at 6,103. Heavyweights finished on a weak note. SBI slipped more than 2.5% (Rs 15) to Rs 573. Reliance was down more than a per cent (Rs 7) at Rs 518. HLL dropped Rs 2 to Rs 139, and ITC declined Rs 4 to Rs 1,269. Tech scrips were dumped today. Infosys crashed more than 3% (Rs 68) to Rs 1,903. Satyam plummetted more than 4% (Rs 16) to Rs 356. Wipro dropped 2.5% (Rs 17) to Rs 657. Hero Honda slipped 4.5% (Rs 26) to Rs 547. Maruti declined 3% (Rs 14) to Rs 413, and Bajaj was down 2% (Rs 22) at Rs 1,080. Cipla tanked nearly 6% (Rs 15) to Rs 253. Dr. Reddy's was down 4% (Rs 31) at Rs 733. Ranbaxy lost 3.7% (Rs 41) to Rs 1,068. Gujarat Ambuja was down Rs 4 at Rs 401. ACC also finished on a weak note, but Grasim moved up a rupee to Rs 1,246. Zee was down 5% (Rs 8) to Rs 155. Reliance Energy declined nearly 4% (Rs 20) to Rs 497. Tata Power was also down 4% (Rs 16) at Rs 339. HDFC, however, was up Rs 5 at Rs 723. |
