Sensex dips 16 pts, HLL weak

The Sensex opened with a loss of six points at 6,272 and dropped another 22 points to touch a low of 6,272 following weakness in select heavyweights, banking and other old economy stocks.

While the Sensex is now down 16 points at 6,262, the Nifty is down a point at 1,934.

HLL, which rose sharply in the last two trading sessions, has shed 2.10% (Rs 3) to Rs 140. Reliance is down a rupee at Rs 538.

HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank have slipped a per cent each to Rs 535 (down Rs 3) and Rs 381 (down Rs 3), respectively. SBI is marginally down at Rs 619.

Cipla, after reporting strong gains yesterday, is down a per cent (Rs 2) in early deals. Dr. Reddy's, too, is trading a per cent lower (Rs 5) at Rs 651, while Ranbaxy is weak at Rs 905 - down Rs 3.

Hindalco has dipped 1.12% (Rs 14) to Rs 1,240.

ONGC has gained a per cent (Rs 5) to Rs 837, and ITC is up Rs 5 at Rs 1,407.

Infosys, continuing with its weak trend, has dipped a per cent (Rs 13) to Rs 1,907. While Wipro has clocked a per cent gain (Rs 5) to Rs 641, Satyam is up a rupee at Rs 411.

HDFC is up 1.16% (Rs 8) at Rs 730.
