Sensex down 1,216pts; NTPC, RCom down 13%

The Sensex is now down 1,216 points at 17,798.

NTPC, Reliance Communications and ACC have slumped around 13% each to Rs 208, Rs 611 and Rs 755, respectively.

DLF has plunged 9.5% to Rs 910, and Tata Steel has tumbled 8.5% to Rs 715.

Hindalco, Tata Motors and ICICI Bank have plunged 8% each to Rs 170, Rs 655 and Rs 1,146, respectively.

Bajaj Auto and Reliance Energy have slipped 7.5% each to Rs 2,250 and Rs 1,965, respectively.

ONGC and Reliance have dropped 7% each to Rs 1,125 and Rs 2,607, respectively.

Cipla, Hindustan Unilever and BHEL have declined 6% each to Rs 190, Rs 201 and Rs 2,165, respectively.

Larsen & Toubro, Infosys and Maruti are down 5% each at Rs 3,710, Rs 1,390 and Rs 798, respectively.

Out of 2,766 stocks traded so far, 2,603 have declined, 146 have advanced and 17 are unchanged.
