Sensex down 1,668pts; ONGC slumps 15%

The Sensex is now down 1,668 points at 15,937.

The NSE Nifty is down 566 points at 4,643.

Wipro has crashed 16% at Rs 370. ONGC has slumped 15% to Rs 948.

Reliance Energy has tumbled 13.5% to Rs 1,535. Tata Steel and Ranbaxy have shed over 12.5% each at Rs 630 and Rs 318, respectively.

ITC, Satyam and Reliance Communications have slipped 12% each to Rs 179, Rs 327 and Rs 540, respectively.

DLF, Mahindra & Mahindra, Ambuja Cements, HDFC, Hindalco, Reliance, NTPC and Cipla are the other major losers down 9-11% each.

Out of 2,277 stocks traded so far, 2,184 have declined, 72 have advanced and 21 are unchanged.
