Sensex down 145pts; Hindustan Unilever up 4%

The Sensex is now down 145 points at 8,955. The index had opened with a negative gap of 200 points at 8,901, and soon touched a low of 8,887 this morning. The index, thereafter, recovered partially and touched a high of 9,051.

Tata Power has slumped over 6% to Rs 722. Sterlite has plunged 5.5% to Rs 243.

ICICI Bank and HDFC have shed 4.7% each at Rs 379 and Rs 1,414, respectively. Ranbaxy has tumbled 4.3% to Rs 205.

Grasim has slipped over 3% to Rs 1,175. DLF and Maruti have dropped 2.7% each to Rs 184 and Rs 545, respectively.

 

Reliance Infrastructure and Bharti Airtel have declined 2.5% each to Rs 538 and Rs 600, respectively.

Hindustan Unilever has surged 3.5% to Rs 255. ONGC and ITC are up over 1% each at Rs 671 and Rs 172, respectively.

The market breadth is negative - out of 2,297 stocks traded so far, 1,386 have declined, 824 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
