Sensex down 161pts; Satyam, Infosys gain

The Sensex is now down 161 points at 13,638.

SBI has plunged 5.5% (Rs 76) to Rs 1,277. ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank have shed around 4% each to Rs 841 and Rs 1,044, respectively.

Tata Steel has dropped 4% to Rs 464. Hindalco has slipped 2% to Rs 176.

ACC has crumbled 2.5% to Rs 1,078. Dr.Reddy's, Bharti, Reliance Communications, Tata Motors, Larsen & Toubro, HLL and Maruti are the other major losers.

Cipla has gained 1.5% at Rs 250. Satyam and Infosys have advanced over 1% each to Rs 462 and Rs 2,220, respectively.

The market breadth is extremely negative - out of 2,292 stocks traded so far, 1,437 have declined, 794 have advanced and 61 are unmoved.
