Sensex down 165pts; Rel Energy drops 6%

The Sensex is now down 165 points at 17,608.

Reliance Energy has slumped 5.8% to Rs 1,364, and ACC has plunged 4% to Rs 1,130.

Tata Steel has tumbled 3.7% to Rs 802. Dr.Reddy's, Ranbaxy, Tata Motors, Larsen & Toubro, Cipla, SBI and NTPC have dropped around 3% each to Rs 632, Rs 420, Rs 756, Rs 3,000, Rs 184, Rs 1,810 and Rs 208, respectively.

ONGC, Mahindra & Mahindra, Hindalco and Maruti have shed around 2.5% each to Rs 942, Rs 733, Rs 165 and Rs 1,010, respectively.

Satyam has surged 2.7% to Rs 457. TCS has rallied 2% to Rs 1,092.

HDFC Bank has moved up 1.4% to Rs 1,420. Infosys has gained 1% at Rs 2,011.

Out of 2,581 stocks traded so far, 2,094 have declined, 441 have advanced and 46 are unchanged.
