The Sensex opened with a negative gap of 226 points at 17,541, on the back of weak cues from the overseas markets. The index slipped to a low of 17,445, recovered and then touched a high of 17,619. The index is now down 171 points at 17,596. DLF and Larsen & Toubro have plunged 2.5% each to Rs 843 and Rs 3,421, respectively. Infosys, BHEL and Satyam have slipped over 2% each to Rs 1,513, Rs 2,185 and Rs 430, respectively. Reliance Communications and HDFC Bank have dropped over 1.5% each to Rs 600 and Rs 1,515, respectively. Maruti, HDFC and Reliance Energy have also dropped 1.5% each to Rs 818, Rs 2,820 and Rs 1,683, respectively. Tata Steel, Tata Motors and ICICI Bank are down over 1% each at Rs 769, Rs 724 and Rs 1,148, respectively. Bajaj Auto has advanced 2.3% to Rs 2,123. Hindalco and ONGC are up around 1% each at Rs 166 and Rs 1,035, respectively. |
