Sensex down 171pts; Tata Mot, Tata St sheds 3%

The Sensex is now down 171 points at 10,597.

Reliance has dropped over 4% to Rs 1,037.

HDFC, Tata Motors and Tata Steel have shed nearly 3% each to Rs 1,190, Rs 774 and Rs 532, respectively.

SBI has slipped 2.5% to Rs 730. Maruti, ITC, Reliance Energy, Wipro and Satyam are down over 2% each.

NTPC has rallied 2% to Rs 117. Bharti Airtel is up 1% at Rs 370.

Out of 2,415 stocks traded so far, 1,514 have declined, 822 have advanced and 79 are unchanged.
