Sensex down 225pts; breadth fairly -ve

The Sensex is now down 225 points at 17,773.

Reliance Energy has tumbled 8% to Rs 1,465. BHEL has slumped nearly 5% to Rs 2,077.

Maruti has plunged 4.4% to Rs 1,095, and Bharti Airtel has shed nearly 4% to Rs 980.

Tata Steel has dropped 2.4% to Rs 817. Reliance and Hindalco have slipped around 2% each to Rs 2,520 and Rs 184, respectively.

ICICI Bank has declined 1.7% to Rs 1,021. HDFC, Tata Motors, ITC, Grasim, Bajaj Auto, Ambuja Cements and Cipla are down over 1% each.

Reliance Communications has zoomed 3% to Rs 733.

HDFC Bank has rallied over 2% to Rs 1,410. ONGC has gained 1.3% at Rs 1,108.

Infosys has advanced 1.6% to Rs 1,919, and TCS has added 1.4% to Rs 1,135.

The market breadth is fairly negative - out of 2,318 stocks traded so far, 1,703 have declined, 570 have advanced and 45 are unchanged.
