Sensex down 23pts; L&T slips over 2%

The Sensex opened a tad higher at 10,181. After touching a new high of 10,185, the index tumbled into negative zone to touch a low of 10,138. The index is now down 23 points at 10,150.

Larsen & Toubro has dropped 2.2% to Rs 2,445. Hindalco at Rs 160 and Tata Motors at Rs 782 have declined over 1% each.

ICICI Bank and Ranbaxy are also down 1% each at Rs 603 and Rs 439, respectively.

Cipla, Infosys, Satyam and Reliance Energy are the other notable losers among the Sensex stocks.

BHEL has gained over 1% at Rs 1,914. Bharti Tele is up 1% at Rs 367.

HDFC Bank, Tata Power and Hero Honda are the other notable gainers.
