Sensex down 240pts; NTPC, Hindalco shine

The Sensex is now down 240 points at 9517.

NTPC has surged 4.7% to Rs 105. Hindalco has spurted 3.3% to Rs 160.

Maruti and Hero Honda are up 1.5% each at Rs 729 and Rs 750, respectively.

Reliance Energy has dropped 7.6% to Rs 373. HDFC Bank has slumped 6.5% to Rs 674.

Tata Power and HLL have shed 6% each to Rs 435 and Rs 207, respectively. HDFC is down over 5% at Rs 1,105.

Grasim and Bajaj Auto are down nearly 5% each at Rs 1,560 and Rs 2,413, respectively.

Bharti Airtel and Reliance have declined nearly 4% each to Rs 340 and Rs 859, respectively.

Out of a total of 2,303 stocks traded so far, 2,115 have declined, 159 have advanced and 29 are unchanged.
