Sensex down 257pts; HDFC sheds 5%

The Sensex is now down 257 points at 14,282.

Hindalco has plunged over 13% to Rs 150. HDFC has tumbled 5% to Rs 1,725, and Tata Motors has shed 4% to Rs 869.

BHEL and Reliance Energy have slipped over 3.5% each to Rs 2,411 and Rs 536, respectively.

Larsen & Toubro, Reliance Communications, Gujarat Ambuja and Bajaj Auto have declined around 3% each to Rs 1,659, Rs 461, Rs 135 and Rs 2,955, respectively.

HLL has gained 1% at Rs 205.

Out of 2,639 stocks traded so far, 2,248 have declined, 368 have advanced and 23 are unchanged.
