Sensex down 297pts; Hindalco drops 4%

The Sensex is now down 297 points at 14,841.

Hindalco has plunged over 4% to Rs 156.

Larsen & Toubro, ICICI Bank, Ambuja Cements and Reliance Communications have slumped 3% each to Rs 2,442, Rs 888, Rs 125 and Rs 531, respectively.

BHEL, Wipro and Reliance Energy have shed 2.7% each to Rs 1,672, Rs 457 and Rs 733, respectively.

HDFC Bank, ACC, Grasim and Maruti have dropped around 2.5% each to Rs 1,122, Rs 978, Rs 2,888 and Rs 830, respectively.

Satyam, Tata Steel, HDFC, Mahindra & Mahindra and NTPC have declined around 2% each to Rs 462, Rs 638, Rs 1,949, Rs 665 and Rs 163, respectively.

Ranbaxy has gained 1% at Rs 370.

 
Out of 2,375 stocks traded so far, 1,561 have declined, 767 have advanced and 47 are unchanged.
