Sensex down 30 pts

Lack of activity in old and new economy stocks has seen the index move in a narrow range. Although select counters have rebounded from their early lows, weakness is still visible in select heavyweights, tech and other old economy.

The Sensex, as a result, is now down 30 points at 6,429.

Reliance is up a rupee at Rs 531, coming off from its early highs. ITC is trading in a narrow range at Rs 1,276 - down Rs 18 or 1.39%. HLL (down Rs 2 to Rs 143) is still subdued.

Infosys has upped its gains by a per cent (Rs 14) to Rs 2,066. While Wipro has lost 1.59% (Rs 11) to Rs 695, Satyam is down a per cent (Rs 3) at Rs 387.

SBI has come off from its recent highs, and is up a rupee at Rs 619. HDFC Bank is trailing by 1.81% (Rs 9) at Rs 489, and ICICI Bank is down a per cent (Rs 3) at Rs 357.

ONGC is still trading with a per cent loss (Rs 7) at Rs 791. Tata Power at Rs 381 (down Rs 6 or 1.51%) and Tisco at Rs 362 (down Rs 6 or 1.71%) are still trading at lower levels.

Hero Honda, on renewed buying support, has moved up 2.30% (Rs 13) to Rs 579. Tata Motors is up Rs 2 at Rs 504. Bajaj has trimmed its losses to Rs 1,075 - down Rs 13 or 1.20%. Maruti is down 1.33% (Rs 6) at Rs 440.

Hindalco is still exhibiting weak trends due to selling pressure. The stock is now down 2.19% (Rs 30) at Rs 1,337. Bharti has erased most of its gains on profit-taking, and is up a tad at Rs 211.
