Sensex down 300pts; RIL, tech stocks gain

The Sensex has recovered most of its losses and is now down 300 points at 18,752. The index had tumbled to a low of 17,308 in opening trades today.

Reliance Energy and HDFC have slumped around 5% each to Rs 1,810 and Rs 2,449, respectively.

NTPC has plunged over 4% to Rs 222. Bharti Airtel and ACC have shed 3.8% each to Rs 1,068 and Rs 1,219, respectively.

Mahindra & Mahindra and SBI have tumbled 3% each to Rs 790 and Rs 1,868, respectively.

Reliance Communications and HDFC Bank have slipped 2.7% each to Rs 740 and Rs 1,465, respectively.

ITC, Cipla and Ranbaxy are down around 2.5% each at Rs 181, Rs 180 and Rs 420, respectively.

TCS has surged nearly 3% to Rs 1,099. Satyam has gained 2% at Rs 459, and Infosys has added 1.5% to Rs 1,895.

Reliance and Hindalco have moved up 1.3% each to Rs 2,685 and Rs 200, respectively.

Out of 2,506 stocks traded so far, 1,769 have declined, 678 have advanced and 59 are unchanged.
