Sensex down 36pts; Hindalco surges 4%

The Sensex is now down 36 points at 17,790.

The NSE Nifty is up 10 points at 5,278.

SBI has plunged over 3% to Rs 2,017. DFL and Reliance have dropped 2.4% each to Rs 805 and Rs 2,527, respectively.

Reliance Energy has tumbled over 2% to Rs 1,597. ACC has shed 1.8% at Rs 802.

Ambuja Cements and ICICI Bank have slipped around 1.5% each to Rs 121 and Rs 1,097, respectively.

Infosys is down 1.3% at Rs 1,597.

Hindalco has soared 3.8% to Rs 203. Mahindra & Mahindra has rallied over 3% to Rs 679.

BHEL has surged 2.5% to Rs 2,321, and Cipla has gained 2% at Rs 206.

HDFC has moved up 1.7% to Rs 2,730. Ranbaxy, Satyam and Tata Steel have advanced around 1.5% each to Rs 443, Rs 444 and Rs 823, respectively.

HDFC Bank and Bajaj Auto are up over 1% each at Rs 1,468 and Rs 2,202, respectively.

Out of 2,764 stocks traded so far, 1,526 have declined, 1,163 have advanced and 73 are unchanged.
