Sensex down 39 pts, L&T drops 4%

 Metal scrips, too, logged gains. Sesa Goa advanced over 5% to Rs 717. Sterlite was up over 2% at Rs 658. Essar, Hindalco and Welspun Gujarat also closed with gains today.

LIC Housing Finance declined over 5% to Rs 220.

Himachal Futuristics topped the volume chart with trades in over 1.56 crore shares followed by Zigma Software (1.44 crore), Petronet LNG (1.09 crore) and ITI (73.51 lakh).

Satyam was the most active counter with a turnover of nearly Rs 112 crore followed by Reliance (Rs 102 crore), Reliance Capital (Rs 90 crore) and Tata Steel (Rs 69 crore).
