Sensex down 42pts; Maruti gains 3%

The Sensex is now down 42 points at 17,307.

The NSE Nifty is now down 11 points at 5,100.

Bajaj Auto has slumped 4.5% to Rs 2,193, and HDFC Bank has tumbled 4% to Rs 1,415.

Mahindra & Mahindra has shed 2.5% at Rs 613. SBI and ICICI Bank have dropped 1.5% each to Rs 2,082 and Rs 1,083, respectively.

Hindalco and Tata Steel have also declined around 1.5% each to Rs 189 and Rs 792, respectively. Bharti Airtel is down 1% at Rs 842.

Maruti has rallied 3% to Rs 789. Ranbaxy and Satyam have surged 1.7% each to Rs 417 and Rs 446, respectively.

Wipro and Infosys have advanced 1.5% each to Rs 429 and Rs 1,602, respectively.

ACC and ONGC are up over 1% each at Rs 784 and Rs 1,009, respectively.

Out of 2,561 stocks traded so far, 1,735 have declined, 764 have advanced and 62 are unchanged.
