Sensex down 49pts; HDFC, ONGC weak

The Sensex is now down 49 points at 17,798.

HDFC has slumped 4% to Rs 2,489, and ONGC has plunged 3.5% to Rs 989.

ICICI Bank, Wipro and Hindalco have slipped around 2% each to Rs 1,063, Rs 462 and Rs 176, respectively.

Grasim, HDFC Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra and ITC have dropped 1.7% each to Rs 3,582, Rs 1,398, Rs 758 and Rs 184, respectively.

NTPC has soared 3.6% to Rs 225. Tata Steel has surged over 3% to Rs 867.

Reliance Energy and Maruti have rallied 2.7% each to Rs 1,490 and Rs 1,046, respectively.

Bajaj Auto and Cipla have moved up 1.7% each to Rs 2,586 and Rs 188, respectively.

Ambuja Cements, BHEL and Hindustan Unilever are up 1.3% each at Rs 147, Rs 2,102 and Rs 223, respectively.

Out of 2,802 stocks traded so far, 1,638 have declined, 1,108 have advanced and 56 are unchanged.
