Sensex down 500pts; HDFC, SBI tumble 9%

The Sensex has extended losses and is now down 499 points at 9,273.

Hindalco has crashed 20% to Rs 42. Sterlite has plunged over 12% to Rs 215.

Mahindra & Mahindra, Ranbaxy and Tata Motors have tumbled 10% each to Rs 306, Rs 207 and Rs 176, respectively.

Tata Steel has slumped 9% to Rs 190. HDFC and SBI have dropped 8.5% each to Rs 1,610 and Rs 1,213, respectively.

Reliance Communications has tumbled nearly 8% to Rs 212. Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank, Tata Power, ONGC and DLF have slipped around 7% each to Rs 570, Rs 995, Rs 677, Rs 722 and Rs 250, respectively.

 

NTPC has declined 6.5% to Rs 134. Maruti and Reliance Infrastructure are down around 6% each to Rs 556 and Rs 422, respectively.
