Sensex down 527pts, ONGC slumps 9%

The Sensex tumbled to a low of 10,186 - down 601 points. The index is now down 527 points at 10,260.

ONGC has plunged 9% to Rs 1,073. Grasim has slumped over 8% to Rs 1,720, and ITC has dropped 7% to Rs 164.

Tata Steel and ACC are down nearly 7% each at Rs 511 and Rs 728, respectively.

Declining stocks are outnumbering advancing stocks in the ratio of nearly 12:1 - out of 2,197 stocks traded so far, 2,001 have declined, 170 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
