Sensex down 52pts in early deals

The Sensex opened with a negative gap of 30 points at 12,244. Weakness at the opening bell saw the index tumble to a low of 12,172.

The index is now down 52 points at 12,222.

HDFC and Satyam have slipped over 1% each to Rs 1,390 and Rs 850, respectively.

Tata Motors and ICICI Bank are down 1% each.

Hindalco, Gujarat Ambuja and ACC are the notable gainers among the index stocks.
