Sensex down 53 points; NTPC up 3.8%

The Sensex, which, opened marginally higher at 9400, had touched a new all-time intra-day high of 9428. However, some profit taking at higher levels forced the index slip into negative zone.

Currently the Sensex is down 53 points at 9341. The Nifty has shed 20 points at 2823.

Ranbaxy and Hindalco are leading the downmove with losses of 2.5% each at Rs 358 and Rs 143. TCS at Rs 1,695, Satyam at Rs 718, Infosys at Rs 2,968, Maruti at Rs 652, Hero Honda at Rs 843, ICICI Bank at Rs 576, ITC at Rs 143, Tata Steel at Rs 376, SBI at Rs 931 and BHEL at Rs 1,423 are up 1-2% each.

On the other hand, NTPC is the major gainer, the stock has surged 3.8% to Rs 110. HDBC Bank at Rs 724, Dr.Reddy's at Rs 961, Gujarat Ambuja Cement at Rs 83 and Wipro at Rs 461 are up 1-2% each.
