Sensex down 53pts; Ambuja Cements up 4%

The Sensex is now down 53 points at 17,507.

Bharti Airtel has plunged 4.6% to Rs 924. Tata Steel has tumbled nearly 3% to Rs 827.

TCS and Satyam have shed around 2.5% each to Rs 1,078 and Rs 449, respectively.

HDFC has slipped 1.8% to Rs 2,356. Wipro and Reliance have declined 1.5% each to Rs 493 and Rs 2,433, respectively.

Tata Motors, Maruti and Infosys are down 1% each at Rs 772, Rs 1,063 and Rs 1,888, respectively.

Ambuja Cements has soared over 4% to Rs 145. ACC and Reliance Energy have surged 2.3% each to Rs 1,015 and Rs 1,364, respectively.

Hindalco has advanced nearly 2% to Rs 178. ITC and ICICI Bank have gained 1.7% each at Rs 178 and Rs 1,042, respectively.

Mahindra & Mahindra has moved up 1.5% to Rs 739.

Out of 2,667 stocks traded so far, 1,344 have declined, 1,246 have advanced and 77 are unchanged.
