Sensex down 53pts; Deccan Chronicle zooms 20%

The Sensex is exhibiting range-bound movement, and is now down 53 points at 9791.

Tata Motors is up 3.4% at Rs 729.

While NTPC has moved up 2.7% to Rs 118, Tata Power has gained 2.6% at Rs 486.

Bharti Tele has spurted 2.5% to Rs 373.

Grasim is up 1.7% at Rs 1,526.

HDFC has declined 3.2% to Rs 1,317, and ONGC is down 2.2% at Rs 1,159.

ICICI Bank and ITC have slipped 1.6% each to Rs 569 and Rs 153, respectively.

Infosys, HDFC Bank, HLL, Cipla and Hero Honda are down 1% each.

The market breadth is fairly even. Out of 2,446 stocks traded so far, 1,250 have slipped, 1,135 have moved up and 61 are flat.

Deccan Chronicle has hit the 20% upper limit at Rs 441. Punjab Alkalies, Gujarat Alkalies, National Peroxide, Hexaware, IndusInd Bank and Moser Bear have gained significantly.

Greaves Cotton has slumped over 10% to Rs 277. KLG Systel, Saksoft, Tulip IT, Nicholas Piramal, India Cements, United Phosphorous, Crompton Greves, SAIL, GSK Consumers and MICO are in declining mode.
