Sensex down 53pts; Ranbaxy drops 3%

The Sensex is now down 53 points at 14,129.

Satyam has tumbled 4.7% to Rs 465. Ranbaxy has shed 2.5% to Rs 405.

HDFC Bank, Reliance Energy and Gujarat Ambuja have slipped around 1.5% each to Rs 1,049, Rs 506 and Rs 146, respectively.

Hero Honda, Wipro, ITC and Hindalco are down over 1% each at Rs 721, Rs 615, Rs 174 and Rs 164, respectively.

BHEL has advanced 1.2% to Rs 2,297. Infosys and HDFC are the other prominent gainers.

Out of 2,533 stocks traded so far, 1,356 have advanced, 1,122 have declined and 55 are unchanged.
