Sensex down 54pts; HDFC drops 3%

The Sensex is now down 54 points at 12,400.

NTPC has surged 2.3% to Rs 133. Tata Motors has gained 1.5% at Rs 876. Bajaj Auto and Satyam have moved up 1.3% each to Rs 3,039 and Rs 829, respectively.

Reliance Communications and Reliance Energy are up 1% each at Rs 350 and Rs 488, respectively.

HDFC has shed 3% to Rs 1,487. HLL and Ranbaxy have slipped over 2% each to Rs 251 and Rs 430, respectively.

Cipla has dropped nearly 2% to Rs 257. Infosys, BHEL, Larsen & Toubro and Maruti are down around 1% each to Rs 1,826, Rs 2,369, Rs 1,260 and Rs 972, respectively.

Out of 2,500 stocks traded so far, 1,468 have advanced, 953 have declined and the rest are unchanged.
