Sensex down 54pts; Tata Steel surges 3%

The Sensex is now down 54 points at 19,549.

Reliance and ICICI Bank have dropped 2% each to Rs 2,872 and Rs 1,143, respectively.

TCS has shed 1.5% at Rs 1,037, and Satyam has slipped 1.3% to Rs 442.

Ranbaxy is down 1% at Rs 388.

Tata Steel has surged 3% to Rs 864. Mahindra & Mahindra has rallied over 2% to Rs 768.

BHEL and Ambuja Cements have gained 1.5% each at Rs 2,805 and Rs 154, respectively.

Larsen & Toubro and Infosys are up 1% each at Rs 4,224 and Rs 1,617, respectively.

Out of 2,841 stocks traded so far, 1,880 have advanced, 909 have declined and 52 are unchanged.
