Sensex down 562pts; declines beat advances 10:1

The Sensex tumbled to a low of 10,247 - down 540 points - and is now down 562 points at 10,224.

ONGC and BHEL have plunged over 7% each to Rs 1,094 and Rs 1,819, respectively.

Grasim (Rs 1,750), ITC (Rs 165), ACC (Rs 728), HLL (Rs 225), Tata Steel (Rs 513), Cipla (Rs 227) and Hindalco (Rs 174) are down 6-7% each.

Declining stocks are outnumbering advancing stocks in the ratio of nearly 10:1 - out of 2,130 stocks traded so far, 1,909 have declined, 194 have advanced and 27 are unchanged.
