Sensex down 56pts; Tata Steel soars 9%

The Sensex opened 112 points higher at 8,851, touched a high of 8,855, but soon pared gains and slipped into the negative zone. The index slipped to a low of 8,651, and is now down 56 points at 8,683.

Tata Steel has zoomed over 9% to Rs 163. Tata Motors has advanced over 2% to Rs 131.

Jaiprakash Associates, Sterlite and ICICI Bank have moved up around 1.5% each to Rs 59, Rs 234 and Rs 328, respectively.

Wipro and Mahindra & Mahindra have plunged 3% each to Rs 226 and Rs 243, respectively.

Bharti Airtel, Hindalco and Infosys have shed 2.5% each at Rs 654, Rs 51 and Rs 1,180, respectively.

 

Satyam and ONGC have slipped 2% each to Rs 228 and Rs 651, respectively.

DLF has dropped 1.8% to Rs 179. TCS, ITC and HDFC Bank have declined around 1.5% each to Rs 526, Rs 167 and Rs 872, respectively.

Maruti and Hindustan Unilever are down over 1% each at Rs 454 and Rs 231, respectively.
