Sensex down 65pts; Tata Motors firm

The Sensex has touched a low of 18,146 so far, and is now down 65 points at 18,155. 

Meanwhile, the European markets too have opened on a negative note. The Nifty is at 5444, down 16 points. FTSE 100, CAC and DAX have all opened down around 1% each.

Among the BSE Sectoral Indices, there is not much movement. Auto continues to top the gainers list, although it has pared some of its gains - now up 0.5%. The Consumer Durables and Oil & Gas (up 0.2% each) have also pared some of its gains but managed to remain green. All the other Indices have slipped into the red.

On the Sensex, Tata Motors continue to top the gainers list - now up 5.5% at Rs 1,011. Hindalco and Hindustan Unilever are the other major gainers.

On the losers side, Tata Steel down 2% is the biggest loser followed by Mahindra & Mahindra,    HDFC and Wipro.

The market breadth has turned negative with 1,457 stocks declining as against 1,377 advances.
