Sensex down 7 pts, after a firm opening

The Sensex opened firm above the 6,200-mark with a gain of 17 points at 6,202. After clocking a high of 6,216, selling pressure in select old and new economy stocks pulled the index down to a low of 6,170.

The Sensex is now down seven points 6,176, while the Nifty is flat at 1,925.

ITC, after a sharp rally on Thursday, has shed nearly 2% (Rs 26) to Rs 1,352. While Reliance has clocked a per cent gain (Rs 5) to Rs 516, HLL is up a notch at Rs 142.

Infosys has lost a per cent (Rs 16) to Rs 1,945 in early trades. Satyam (up Rs 2 to Rs 362) and Wipro (up a rupee to Rs 675) are up with steady gains.

SBI has lost 1.24% (Rs 7) to Rs 569, and HDFC Bank has slipped a per cent (Rs 5) to Rs 505.

Tata Power has dropped 3.62% (Rs 13) to Rs 347. While ACC has commenced with a per cent gain (Rs 3) at Rs 344, ONGC is marginally up at Rs 783.
