Sensex down 70pts; TCS gains 4%

The Sensex continues to gyrate between the narrow range of 50-60 odd points. In the morning, the index opened 138 points lower at 8,889, but soon rebounded and touched a high of 9,078.

The Sensex, thereafter, is exhibiting lacklustre movement and is now down 70 points at 8,957.

Reliance Infrastructure has slumped 4.7% to Rs 495.

Tata Motors has tumbled 3.7% to Rs 135, and Larsen & Toubro has plunged 3.3% to Rs 726.

Tata Steel has shed 2.5% at Rs 151. Jaiprakash Associates, Grasim and Reliance Communications have slipped around 2% each at Rs 56, Rs 900 and Rs 195, respectively.

 

HDFC and SBI are down around 1% each at Rs 1,398 and Rs 1,094, respectively.

TCS has surged 3.6% to Rs 546. Tata Power has rallied over 2% to Rs 669.

Sterlite and Mahindra & Mahindra have moved up nearly 2% each to Rs 235 and Rs 275, respectively.

ACC and BHEL have advanced around 1.5% each at Rs 410 and Rs 1,319, respectively. Satyam has added 1.3% to Rs 240.

The market breadth is negative - out of 1,606 stocks traded, 918 have declined, 635 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
