Sensex down 7pts; breadth fairly -ve

The Sensex is now down seven points at 17,342.

The NSE Nifty is now down two points at 5,109.

Bajaj Auto and HDFC Bank have plunged over 4% each to Rs 2,200 and Rs 1,415, respectively.

Mahindra & Mahindra has tumbled 2.4% to Rs 614. ICICI Bank and Hindalco have dropped 1.6% each to Rs 1,081 and Rs 189, respectively.

SBI and Tata Steel have shed 1.3% each at Rs 2,087 and Rs 794, respectively.

Bharti Airtel and HDFC are down 1% each at Rs 842 and Rs 2,550, respectively.

Maruti has surged over 3% to Rs 791. Satyam and Infosys have advanced over 1.5% each to Rs 446 and Rs 1,604, respectively.

Wipro, ONGC and Ranbaxy have gained 1.3% each at Rs 428, Rs 1,010 and Rs 415, respectively.

ACC is up 1% at Rs 783.

The market breadth is fairly negative - out of 2,522 stocks traded so far, 1,713 have declined, 742 have advanced and 67 are unchanged.
