The Sensex is now down 81 points at 11,204. The index had opened at 11,358, and touched a high of 11,367 in early trades. Thereafter index dropped to a low of 11,098.
Tata Motors has tumbled 7% to Rs 262. Ranbaxy has slumped 6% to Rs 188. Mahindra & Mahindra has plunged 4% to Rs 456.
Tata Steel has shed 3.5% to Rs 283. Reliance, Reliance Infrastructure and ONGC have dropped over 2% each to Rs 1,772, Rs 690 and Rs 873, respectively.
Infosys, HDFC, Larsen & Toubro and HDFC Bank have also declined.
On the other hand, Sun Pharma has surged over 2% to Rs 1,238. Bharti Airtel has rallied 2% to Rs 697.
Maruti Suzuki and Grasim have added 1.5% each to Rs 861 and Rs 1,647, respectively.
ITC and TCS have also advanced marginally.
The market breadth is marginally positive. Out of 2,474 stocks traded, 1,256 have advanced, and 1,144 have declined.
