Sensex down 842pts; HDFC slumps 12%

The Sensex is now down 842 points at 14,918.

The NSE Nifty is down 232 points at 4,513.

HDFC has slumped 11.7% to Rs 2,211. ICICI Bank has plunged 10% to Rs 791.

Jaiprakash (JP) Associates has tumbled over 9% to Rs 215. Reliance Communications has dropped nearly 7% to Rs 483.

DLF, Hindalco and Reliance Energy have shed around 6.5% each to Rs 611, Rs 170 and Rs 1,213, respectively.

Tata Steel, HDFC Bank and Reliance have slipped over 6% each to Rs 671, Rs 1,235 and Rs 2,183, respectively.

SBI has declined 5.5% to Rs 1,621. Larsen & Toubro and Ranbaxy have shed 5% each at Rs 2,765 and Rs 440, respectively.

Out of 2,639 stocks traded so far, 2,302 have declined, 303 have advanced and 34 are unchanged.
