Sensex down 847pts; Rel Energy slumps 15%

The Sensex is now down 847 points at 16,618.

The NSE Nifty is down 269 points at 4,852.

Reliance Energy has slumped 15.5% to Rs 1,659. Mahindra & Mahindra and HDFC have tumbled nearly 8.5% each to Rs 590 and Rs 2,565, respectively.

ONGC, Reliance Communications and SBI have tumbled around 7% each to Rs 925, Rs 600 and Rs 2,040, respectively.

Reliance, Hindustan Unilever and NTPC have shed around 6.5% each at Rs 2,260, Rs 198 and Rs 190, respectively.

Larsen & Toubro has slipped nearly 6% to Rs 3,320. HDFC Bank has dropped 5.5% to Rs 1,367.

Ranbaxy, Bajaj Auto, ICICI Bank and BHEL are down over 5% each at Rs 362, Rs 2,100, Rs 1,010 and Rs 1,910, respectively.

Satyam has surged 2% to Rs 418. Infosys has advanced 1.4% to Rs 1,573.

Out of 2,620 stocks traded so far, 2,402 have declined, 188 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
