Sensex down 859pts; ICICI Bank drops 11%

The Sensex is now down 859 points at 14,901.

The NSE Nifty is down 223 points at 4,523.

ICICI Bank has plunged over 11% to Rs 780, and HDFC has slumped nearly 10% to Rs 2,256.

Jaiprakash (JP) Associates has tumbled 10.3% to Rs 212. Hindalco has shed 8% at Rs 167.

Tata Steel and Reliance Energy have dropped around 7.5% each to Rs 663 and Rs 1,199, respectively.

DLF and Reliance Communications have slipped over 7% each to Rs 608 and Rs 481, respectively. Larsen & Toubro has declined 6.5% to Rs 2,718.

HDFC Bank has shed 6% at Rs 1,238. Grasim and Reliance dropped 5.7% each to Rs 2,695 and Rs 2,191, respectively.

Ranbaxy slipped 5% to Rs 441. Tata Motors and SBI were down over 4.5% each to Rs 606 and Rs 1,636, respectively.

BHEL shed 4% at Rs 1,805. Satyam, ACC and NTPC declined over 3.5% each to Rs 365, Rs 771 and Rs 188, respectively.

Out of 2,679 stocks traded so far, 2,385 have declined, 260 have advanced and 34 are unchanged.
